Yse Góes

Yse Góes is a dancer and physical education teacher with 24 years dedicated to the art of dance. Originally from Florianópolis (Brazil) and currently living in Espinho (Portugal), she discovered Forró Roots in 2009 and has been teaching it ever since, with a focus on both roles – leading and following. She played an important role in spreading Forró Roots in Rio de Janeiro, where she lived for several years, and actively participated in festivals across Brazil. Yse has toured Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania. She leads the Porto Roots project in Portugal, created a teacher training course, and served as a Jack & Jill judge at the Léman Forró Festival (2023-2026).

Roots Foundations: Essential Footwork and Movement

Prerequisites: Students should be comfortable with the basic forward and backward step (Base 1), rhythm, and dancing in partner connection.

Discover some of the fundamental movements that form the foundation of Forró Roots. In this class, we'll explore basic footwork patterns, while developing rhythm, weight transfer, body awareness, and the characteristic movement quality of the style.

Outside-the-Box Turn: Creative Paths and Possibilities

Prerequisites: Students should feel comfortable and confident with the fundamental movements of Forró, including: Base 1, open position, pião (spin), facão, caminhada, rhythm, and body awareness.

(It's not the Paulista Giro, although I love it.) Discover a smooth and creative way to enter a giro, exploring fluid transitions, breaks, connection, and different movement possibilities.

One Move, Endless Possibilities

Prerequisites: Sense of rhythm, basic knowledge of Forró (basic walk, Base 1, facão, direction changes, and regular pião), comfort with your own dance, good partner connection, and body awareness.
